How to Become a Pilot ?
1. These are the steps to obtain an Indian (DGCA). Commercial Pilots License(C.P.L)?
Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is the regulatory authority that issues Commercial Pilot License (CPL) in India. Click here for their website.
STEP 1:
12th pass from a recognized board in Mathematics and Physics or equivalent certification from an open school.
STEP 2:
It’s important to stay medically fit. You have to undergo Class 2 and Class 1 Medical.
STEP 3:
Obtain a Computer number – a roll number, issued by DGCA, that will allow you to write CPL exams. Apply online here.
Note: Computer Number is not required to undergo Medical Exam.
STEP 4:
Clear all the CPL exams. Click here for the syllabus. The list of subjects is mentioned below.
- Air Navigation
- Air Regulation
- Aviation Meteorology
- Technical General
- Technical Specific Single Engine
- Technical Specific Multi Engine.
STEP 5:
You will also need to obtain another license called the RTR (A) which is issued by Wireless Planning and Coordination Wing of Dept. of Telecommunications, Govt. of India. Click here for more details
How do I prepare for the RTR exam for CPL?

We strongly recommend to clear all the exams first and then join a flying school in India or Abroad, to complete CPL flying hours requirements.
2. How much CPL (ME + IR) costs ?
Flying rates are different for different aircraft in different schools across the globe. Click here for the list of flying schools. But in the current context, it may be anywhere from 20 to 35 lakhs. It also depends on the type of aircraft you are training on. You can also check out the cadet program offered by various airline companies on their official websites.
